Paddling with Purpose: Butuan Dragons and the Spirit of Project Caraga
Update #2
Along the mighty Agusan River in Butuan City, Philippines, the Butuan Dragons rise with the sun—paddles in hand, hearts aligned, and purpose clear. More than a sports team, they are a symbol of discipline, unity, and pride for Butuan and the entire Caraga Region. Their journey has taken them far: from being crowned Overall Champion in the 2025 Bugsay Balangay Nationwide Dragon Boat Competition, to standing as proud finalists at an international race in Guangxi Province, China last June.
But their pursuit goes beyond medals. For the Butuan Dragons, every stroke through the Agusan River is a call to protect it. They see the river not just as a training ground, but as heritage—an ecosystem intertwined with the stories of their people. This vision naturally aligns with Project Caraga’s mission: to empower communities while safeguarding natural resources.
The partnership between the Butuan Dragons and Project Caraga is built on shared aspirations. Both are deeply rooted in community and committed to shaping a better future. Through support for the team, Project Caraga strengthens its advocacy for environmental awareness, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment.
There’s a quiet parallelism in their work. Like a dragon boat crew moving in harmony, Project Caraga’s initiatives require trust, rhythm, and coordination. Both know that progress is a collective effort—and that every voice, paddle, and action counts.
As the Butuan Dragons continue to raise the bar in sport, they also help raise awareness for the Agusan River and the communities that depend on it. Together with Project Caraga, they paddle not just for victory, but for a legacy of resilience, unity, and environmental stewardship.
